Case Study: How GMI Granted School District Guests Secure Access Without Impacting District Staff

OVERVIEW

The school district needed way for guests to securely access their network. They were seeking a wireless solution where public access was accessible through an automated admission control system.

OBJECTIVE

The district’s goals for this engagement included:

  • The requirement that the solution not impact network performance for administrative and educational staff
  • The ability to purchase the solution through the Mohave Cooperative Procurement Contract

APPROACH

  • Based on our assessment of the district’s security and performance requirements, we recommended Cisco Wireless Access Controllers
  • Recommendations were implemented, including Cisco 3504 Wireless Controller, SNTC-8x5xNBD Services and SWSS upgrades.

RESULTS

  • We enabled the district to give guests network access through a secure, automated admission control system that prioritized administrative/educational network traffic.
  • The admission control system validated posture and security compliance checks prior to granting isolated network access.
