Case Study: How GMI Granted School District Guests Secure Access Without Impacting District Staff

OVERVIEW

The school district needed way for guests to securely access their network. They were seeking a wireless solution where public access was accessible through an automated admission control system.

OBJECTIVE

The district’s goals for this engagement included:

The requirement that the solution not impact network performance for administrative and educational staff
The ability to purchase the solution through the Mohave Cooperative Procurement Contract

APPROACH

Based on our assessment of the district’s security and performance requirements, we recommended Cisco Wireless Access Controllers
Recommendations were implemented, including Cisco 3504 Wireless Controller, SNTC-8x5xNBD Services and SWSS upgrades.

RESULTS

We enabled the district to give guests network access through a secure, automated admission control system that prioritized administrative/educational network traffic.
The admission control system validated posture and security compliance checks prior to granting isolated network access.
